How often should I exercise to lose weight? There are a mass of misconceptions related to the amount of time that should be spent on cardio to maximize weight loss. Many people simply believe that they should work out for as long as they can with as much intensity as they can manage.

This is not very effective! By following this strategy most people exhaust themselves long before they have done enough exercise required to lose weight. There is a relatively simple reason for this. To lose weight you have to use more energy then you have taken in.

This is expressed in the form of calories. So to maximize your weight loss without dieting you need to maximize the amount of calories that you use. If you wear yourself out exercising very intensely for a short period then you will become fatigued before you have burnt enough calories.

This will lead to the illusion of working hard, but will not provide the required results! As this is the case it is recommended that you follow guidelines related to how often, and at what intensity you should exercise. It is recommended that you should complete cardio workout at least 5 times a week if you are aiming to lose weight.

These sessions should last for around 45 minutes; as we are all very different the exact details will vary. However the important thing is what the intensity that you are working at. This should be around 80% of your optimal performance. This allows you to burn fat most effectively. If you work out more often then you will lose more weight.

If you burn 400 calories, the recommended amount, 5 times a week then you have burned 2000 more calories. This will cause your body to use the fat stored in your body as a reserve of energy. This will cause you to lose weight! I hope this was helpful.
